Station History

The Coastal Carolina University student radio station officially launched in January of 2009. With the help of the communication department (Chair, Dr. Steve Madden and Professor Carole O'Neill) the idea of a radio station was originally established in the fall of 2008. An interest group of students were assembled and their hard work began.

Students Aaron Perry, Justin Stolarski, Seymour Lewis II and Daniel Schoonmaker quickly emerged as the natural leaders the station would need to get started. Aaron would serve as the first "Station Manager" and ensure that everything would run smoothly during its first semester of operation. Justin (or Puma as he came to be known) would act as the "Programming Director" and schedule the first shows to grace the internet airways of Coastal Carolina University. Seymour (our music major) was a natural choice as the station's first "Music Director" and make sure that the station had the music and equipment it needed. Lastly Dan would serve as the first "Director of Marketing and Web Operations" and was responsible for the website you see before you right now as well as selling ad space both on the air and on this website. Without the help of these hardworking individuals the dream of Coastal Carolina University would have never been realized.

As of right now the history of our radio station continues to write itself as we head into our future with high dreams and aspirations. Hopefully the legacy of Coastal Carolina's student radio station will speak for itself. The details left out will be updated here for all of those to read.
